HELLO MHS ALUMNI,

I am happy to announce that MHS varsity football team won the playoffs on 11/17/11 against Lowell High School 42-24 which means we are going to Turkey Day after 40 years.

I am asking all MHS Alunmni, students, faculty, and parents to come out on Thanksgiving Day and support the cheerleaders, the varsity football team, and head coach Joseph Albano.

It's been a long time coming and we all need to be witness to this day so show your school pride, wear your brown & gold. The game starts at 11:00 am at Kezar Stadium in SF, cost $5.00. More info contact Rosland Butler 510-282-1492 .

WE ARE THE BEARS!

The MHS Bears did not make it to turkey day, but how cool is this that Rosland Butler had the pleasure to meet Jim Cope, former football player for the 1954 championship team.  It would have been nice of the Bears to pull off a win for him, but it was a nice occasion to meet and root for the team.  Congrats to Balboa & Washington High Schools for making it to the big game on Thursday, November 25th at Kezar Stadium.

TONY BERMUDEZ
"Live up to the best that is in you."
--Henry W. Longfellow

Everyone loves to hear inspirational stories.  They warm our hearts, they give us hope and sometimes they even give us courage to accomplish great things. I have had the privilege of hearing such a story about a Mission High School alumnus, Tony Bermudez. With his permission I would like to share it with you.

In 1980, 30 years ago, Tony Bermudez left school without graduating. He was 17 years old.  He met life head-on, with no idea about his future.  In that 30 years he worked different jobs, traveled to many exotic places, and along the way helped to raise two beautiful children.  He had many highs and some lows in his life. He experienced life in so many ways, but there was one thing always missing... his high school diploma.

Tony tried so many times in past years, but between life, love, work and raising children it was no "Caffe Latte." But with the help from a wonderful tutor and long days and hours of studying, Tony finally passed his GED!  That was such a proud accomplishment for him, but he didn't just stop there. With Principal Eric Guthertz's approval, Tony Bermudez completed his experience by walking the stage  with the 2010 Mission High School graduating class.

After being introduced by Principal Guthertz, Tony inspired many with his speech:

"I appreciate the Principal, Faculty and the Class of 2010 for allowing me to Graduate on stage with them.  As I was walking up to receive my certificate I was given a standing ovation.  I could not believe it!  I was also happy that some of my family and friends came to support me in my journey and accomplishment and to witness this special occasion."

Congratulations, Tony! We are all so very proud of you.

ERNEST "MAC" MCNEALY, SR.
GYMNASIUM DEDICATION CEREMONY

Coach Ernest "Mac" McNealy, Sr. was a beloved teacher and basketball and track coach for over 40 years at Mission High School. On September 23, 2003 the San Francisco Board of Education proposed to honor the memory of "Mac" for his years of service, his generosity, his kindness, and his unceasing energy of devotion to the tradition of Mission High School. A plaque in his honor was presented to Analosa McNealy (his wife) and their children on September 27, 2003, during the 2003 alumni reunion.

The Resolution was adopted on October 14, 2003 and on October 29, 2005 the bronze plaque was installed on the Mission High School site, naming the Mission High School Boys Gymnasium the Ernest McNealy, Sr. “Coach MAC” Memorial Gymnasium.

Thank you for joining us on Saturday, October 2, 2010 as we dedicated the Ernest "Mac" McNealy, Sr. Gymnasium in Coach McNealy's honor and presented his family with the Resolution.  (Click here to view a copy of the Resolution.)
